Fonds consists of correspondence and clippings concerning Dunkelman's service overseas during World War II with the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada and his award of the D.S.O., and unpublished manuscript "Israeli Assignment", 1969, by Benjamin Dunkelman, original 1949-1976, 4 cm; correspondence, memoranda, briefs and reports relating to Lt. Col. Dunkelman's service in the Israeli War of Independence, photocopy, 1963, 3 cm.

Dunkelman, Ben, 1913-1997 : Ben Dunkelman, military officer, born and educated in Toronto, Ont., served in the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada during World War II and rose to the rank of major. He was awarded the D.S.O. in June 1945 for participation in clearing the Balberger Wald in Germany.

In 1947 he joined the Haganah, later known as the Israel Defence Forces, commanding the 7th Brigade in the Israel War of Independence, which captured the northern Galilee.

He wrote his memoirs "Dual Allegiance", in 1977. He died in 1997.
