Cockerill, Arthur, 1929- : Arthur W. Cockerhill was born at Blidworth, Nottinghamshire, 24 March 1929, the son of a serving soldier. He was educated at the Duke of York's Royal Military School, Dover, the Army Technical College, Arborfield, and the School of Military Engineering, where he qualified in 1949. He was commissioned in the Corps of Royal Engineers, and served until 1951. Since immigrating to Canada in 1967, he has pursued careers in both engineering and letters. He began to write in 1960, and has published, inter alia, a biography, Sir Percy Sillitoe, (W.H. Allen & Co., 1975) and a history, Sons of the Brave: A History of Boy Soldiers, (Martin Secker & Warburg, 1982).
