Fonds consists of correspondence, memoranda, notes and reports; mainly from the period 1922 to 1925, when Brodeur was posted to Naval Headquarters at Ottawa concerning R.C.N. personnel, and policy, organization of the R.C.N., R.C.N.R. and R.C.N.V.R., training and the problem of financial difficulties experienced by some R.C.N. officers serving in England; correspondence with fellow officers; scrapbooks, souvenirs regarding his career and death; honours, commissions and awards.

Fonds also consists of photographs illustrating the career of Rear Admiral Brodeur in the Royal Canadian Navy.

Fonds consists of a hydrographic chart, Spithead, review of the fleet by His Majesty the King, 20th May 1937 under the superintendence of Rear-Admiral J.A. Edgell.

Brodeur, Victor Gabriel, 1892-1976 : Victor Gabriel Brodeur, naval officer, was born at Beloeil, Quebec, and educated at Ste. Marie de Monnoir in Rouville, Quebec, and at Mount St. Louis College in Montreal. He began his naval career in 1909 when he joined the Canadian government ship Canada in anticipation of the formation of the Canadian Navy. For the next thirty-seven years he served with the Royal Navy and the Royal Canadian Navy, on land and at sea. While attached to the Royal Navy, Brodeur served aboard H.M.A. Berwick in the West Indies Station during the Mexican Revolution and aboard H.M.S. Dreadnought and H.M.S. Caradoc from 1915 to 1919.

He was also posted as Staff Officer to the Gunnery School at Devonport, England, from 1921 to 1922, and from 1925 to 1936 he was attached to the Operations Division of the British Admiralty. Brodeur served as Canadian Naval Attaché in Washington, 1940 to 1942, and as the Naval member of the Canadian Joint Staff in the United States, 1942 to 1943. In addition, he commanded H.M.C.S. Skeena and H.M.C.S. Champlain, 1930 to 1932, and was the Officer Commanding Pacific Coast from 1938 to 1940 and from 1943 until his retirement from active service in 1946. He died in Vancouver, B.C. in 1976.
