Fonds consists of correspondence exchanged between John W. Ross and Philip Danskin Ross and their families and concerns family activities such as visits, health and gifts for anniversaries. Official matters mentioned concern the Ottawa Journal, McGill University subscription drives, the United Church of Canada Commission on Economic Problems and the bankruptcy of the Ross Realty Co. Fonds also consists of amateur film footage of the Ross family

Ross, John W., 1870-ca. 1946 : John W. Ross, chartered accountant, son of Philip Simpson Ross and Christina Chalmers Dansken, was born in 1870 at Montreal, Que., where he received his high school and business college education. He received an L.L.D. from McGill University. He was married to Gertrude Emma Holland and had six children. He joined his father's firm of P.S. Ross and Sons, chartered accountants, in 1892.

He had served as president of several professional and business associations, including the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, 1933, Board of Trade, Montreal, 1922, and Society of Chartered Accountants of Quebec, 1905-1906. As well, he was actively involved with the community in such capacities as Vice-Chairman of the Joint Board of Governors and the Theological College affiliated with McGill University, and governor of the Royal Institute for the Advancement of Learning and of McGill University.
