The fonds consists of correspondence of Adrian K. Hugessen, 1960-1972; correspondence of Ethel Lady Brabourne, 1901-1928; correspondence of Mrs. A.K. Hugessen, 1921-1966; subject files; notebooks, memoirs and diaries, 1899-1976; speeches, 1912-1965; clippings and periodicals, 1888-1892, 1910-1966; Knatchbull, Knatchbull-Hugessen, Walker Family papers, 1828-1960; photographs and prints, 1795-ca. 1970. In addition, there is one microfilm reel containing letters, 1881, 1886, from Sir John A. Macdonald, a letter from Lord Carnavon, 1874, regarding Confederation. The microfilmed material is located on reel A-1651.

The photographs depict events and portraits of Adrian N. Knatchbull Hugessen and family, and of his parents Lord and Lady Brabourne and other relatives in England; including photos by Rice, Notman, David Bier, Graetz Bros., and B & I Photography, 1870-1963.

The fonds also contains medals: British War Medal, 1914-1920; 2 First World War Victory Medals; 4 Miniature medals, British War Medal, George VII Coronation Medal, Elizabeth II Coronation medal; Canadian Centennial Medal; 2 George VII Coronation Medals (1937); Elizabeth II Coronation Medal (1953); and 2 Pope John XXIII Medals (1960).

Knatchbull Hugessen, Adrian (Family), 1891-1976 : Adrian Knatchbull Hugessen (1891-1976) was born at Ashford, Kent, a younger son of the first Baron Brabourne. He was educated at Eton College and McGill University and entered the law profession in Montreal in 1914. During World War I he served with the Seventh Canadian Siege Battery, 1916-1918.

He ran unsuccessfully as a Liberal candidate for St. Lawrence-St. George in the Federal Election of 1935, and sat in the Senate, 1937-1967. He was a member of the Canadian Parliamentary Delegation to the United Nations Preparatory Commission, 1945, and Assistant Government Leader in the Senate, 1950-1952. Senator Hugessen was a governor of McGill University, 1937-1960, Chancellor of the Anglican Diocese of Montreal, 1947-1967, and Batonnier-General of the Quebec Bar, 1960-1961.
