Fonds consists of records pertaining to business, 1931-1972, 36 cm; voluntary associations, 1947-1976, 36 cm; personal and financial, 1929-1978, 11 cm; family and estate items, 1857-1952, 12 cm; and personal and miscellaneous, 1896-1974, 25 cm.

Fonds also consists of photographs which illustrate the activities of W.H. Budden with Bank of Canada and Wartime Prices and Trade Board; Small and Budden family photos; two photographs taken by Josiah Bruce; film personalities with Budden and L.B. Pearson; Canadian Club of Montreal; anniversary celebrations, 1885-1960; and a glass plate negative of an unidentified painting which includes the coat of arms of the Small family, n.d.

The fonds also consists of a sound recording of a speech by Alfred Gruenther, US General and NATO Supreme Commander in Europe, delivered at the Canadian Club, Montreal, about the defence of Europe, the strength of the USSR and Canadian participation in NATO. Speech was recorded by the CBC, 1956.

Budden, William Hanbury, 1908-1979 : Born in Montreal, William Budden, businessman and public servant, was educated at Lower Canada College and McGill University. He served on the staff of the Sun Life Assurance Company, first as a member of the Investment Department and later as Special Assistant to the President. From 1934-1940, he worked for the Bank of Canada, and was Secretary of the War Finance Committee from 1942 to 1945. After a brief period with the Tuckett Tobacco Company Limited, 1946-1948, as Assistant to the President, Mr. Budden became a partner in a Montreal investment counselling business, McLean Budden Limited, 1949-1965. Mr. Budden participated in many voluntary associations, including the Canadian Institute of International Affairs, the Canadian Cancer Society and the Canadian Centenary Council.
