1 drawing : pencil sketch.Language of material:EnglishScope and content:Item is a journal kept by William Brown at Fort Kilmaurs (now known as Fort Babine), dated March to June 1826. The journal includes descriptions of trade relationships between traders and Indigenous women, life conditions of local Indigenous people (including Lake Babine Nation), and episodes of disease and starvation. A pencil sketch of a man wearing a top hat was drawn on the last page of the journal. The file also contains a letter from the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) to Robert W. Redford dated October 18th, 1934. The letter includes three pages of notes on Chief Trader William Brown and Fort Kilmaurs.Provenance:Additional name(s):Biography/Administrative history:Fort Babine (B.C.) : Fort Babine (formerly known as Fort Kilmaurs), was built on Babine Lake about 1822 and moved along the shore in 1836.Additional information:Physical description note:Volume is bound in brown leather.Custodial history:Received in 1972.Dates of creation note:The journal has content dated to 1826.
