Item is the "Diary of General Orders, 1814", an order book of the Regiment of Foot, dated 27 July to 8 September 1814. Evidence seems to suggest it was kept by a non-commissioned officer or an enlisted man of the 6th who was captured or killed during the battle of Fort Erie (17 September 1814). It presumably came into Charles Gardner's possession as a captured enemy document. The order book contains copies of General, District, Garrison, and Regimental orders issued at Kingston, York, and in the camp before Fort Erie.
