Fonds documents operation and administration of the Canadian Air Lines Employees Association (CALEA).

The records document labour relations and collective bargaining with employers Air Canada, Pacific Western Airlines (PWA) and Eastern Provincial Airways (EPA). The records also document CALEA organizing campaigns, the district offices of CALEA, newsletters and other forms of publicity, correspondence and communication with governments and other labour unions, administration of the union, and other matters.

Canadian Air Line Employees' Association : The Canadian Air Line Employees' Association (CALEA) was a national labour union organization that represented ground employees of several Canadian airlines. The union was established in 1946 as the Canadian Air Line Passenger Agents' Association by traffic employees of Trans-Canada Air Lines (later Air Canada). The first collective agreement was signed in 1947 with TCA, resulting in improvements in salaries and shifts for its 250 members.

In 1949, the union became the Trans Canada Air Line Traffic Employees' Association; and in 1956, it became known as the Trans Canada Air Line Sales Employees' Association (SEA). At this time, membership had risen to over 700, most of whom were passenger agents, in charge of telephone reservations, ticket offices and airport services. Communications agents and switchboard operators were also represented by the bargaining unit, which was by then divided into twenty-one geographical districts. In 1965, Trans Canada Air Lines became Air Canada; in 1966, SEA changed its name to CALEA.

CALEA operated as an independent union until 1968, when it affiliated with the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) for greater bargaining strength. Membership by this point was over 2000, and the number of districts had grown to 29. CALEA continued to expand throughout the 1970s, undertaking the representation of Pacific Western Airlines (PWA) traffic employees (in 1971, known as Unit 2); Air Canada finance employees, Winnipeg (1972, Unit 3); Eastern Provincial Airways (EPA) traffic employees (1975, Unit 4); EPA flight attendants (1976, Unit 5); and PWA catering employees (1978, Unit 6). By 1984, CALEA consisted of 11 units, representing over 4,000 members. In 1985, CALEA merged into the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW).

On 1 July 1985, CALEA merged into the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW). In 2013, the CAW merged with the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers (CEP) to create Unifor.
