This consists of four interview cuts recorded for the CBC radio series Our Canada, telling the story of the ordinary people, events and developments in the railways, whealands, waterways, mines, airways, industries, communications, arts, governments, philanthropies and religions that have shaped Canada. A direct descendant of Jean Côté, one of Quebec City's earliest settlers, describes the history of his family. In 1635, Côté married Anne Martin, daughter of Abraham Martin, who stayed in Quebec after Samuel Champlain returned to France. The man talks about the Martin family, ending with the remark that he is more concerned with the future of his family than with the past. A Quebec Government official describes the settlement of the Abitibi region by residents of the Madeleine Islands, which are too crowded and have soil that it is too poor to adequately support all of the islanders. A Quebec City man describes the beauty of the city's location, its old buildings and its industrial importance. A Dr. Couillard, a tenth-generation Quebecker, describes the first Couillard in Canada, Guillaume Couillard, and his family history.
