She was born in Kauhajoki, Vaasa district in Finland on April 14, 1899. She came to Canada by a ship called Gripsholm in 1928, and landed at Halifax. Her husband came 2 years earlier and her brother was here also. In Finland, they were farmers. Their first home was a homestead in Jack township, where they did bushwork on their own land. In 1932 they bought a farm in Lappe where they raised 400-600 chickens. They had 3 children in Finland and one was born in Canada. Koivuranta's husband was a member of a union. Husband and/or Koivuranta belonged to the Lappe branch of the Finnish Organization of Canada (FOC) from 1945-6 and acted in plays there. He and/or she was a member of the International Co-op and Co-op dairy in Lappe. Siren was the manager.
