The records consist of subject files (numeric blocks) relating to the administration and activities of the unit (Boards of Inquiry, Ceremonies and Celebrations, Historical Reports, Establishment and Operations, Exercises and Manoeuvres, etc.). The files contain material illustrating involvement in peacekeeping roles, as part of the United Nations or in truce supervision, in Cyprus (1973-79), Thaïland (1979), Cambodia(1989) and Namibia (1988-89). The records also reflect the participation of the unit to the Persian Gulf Theatre of Operations and the deployment of the United Nations in Iran and Iraq (1990-92).Biography/Administrative history:Canada. Canadian Forces Base (Petawawa, Ont.). Field Ambulance, 2nd : Organized by CAO 110-2 in 1950 as No 25 Canadian Field Ambulance, this unit was redesignated as 2 Field Ambulance in 1950 then as 2 CGMU in 1968. In 1975, it was redesignated as 2 Field Ambulance, and in 1977 became part of the Special Service Force (SSF), with the mandate to provide medical support both in garrison and in the field. When the SSF was disbanded in 1995, it reverted to providing support to units of 2 Combat Group, with which it is stationed at CFB PetawawaSource:GovernmentFormer archival reference no.:RG24-G-14-52 -
