Fonds consists of family history, biographical information and material collected or created by Brock during his career as a Naval Officer. Fonds contains reports and standing orders with regard to Naval operational activities during the Second World War, the Korean War and standard naval exercises as well as briefs, papers, notes and lectures compiled by Brock while on active Naval service. The material collected during his career touches on issues such as the unification of the Canadian Forces and the personnel structure of the Royal Canadian Navy. There is considerable correspondence with John G. Diefenbaker, R.L. Stanfield and others which was accumulated during the 1968 Federal Election when Brock ran as a PC candidate. Fonds contains manuscripts of The Dark Broad Seas and The Thunder and the Sunshine as well as notes and research material used in writing these works. Fonds also consists of records created and/or collected in his position as Director of Operations of Canada's America's Cup challenge.

Fonds consists of photographs documenting the life and times of Captain Eustace A. Brock, O.B.E. including: association with Gresham Life Insurance Company, Vancouver, B.C., 1912-1913; service with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Auxiliary Patrol, 1914-1918; as Commanding Officer, Winnipeg Division, Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve, 1923-1931; as Controller of Naval Information, Naval Headquarters, Ottawa, 1939-1940. The photographs also document the life and times of Rear Admiral Jeffry V. Brock including: his childhood at Vancouver, B.C., and Winnipeg, Man.; as First Lieutenant, Winnipeg Division, R.C.N.V.R., 1934; Commanding Officer, Vancouver Division, R.C.N.V.R., 1936.

Fonds also includes of one street map of Nanaimo, B.C.

Brock, Jeffry V., 1913-1997 : Born in 1913 in Vancouver, J.V. Brock entered the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve in Winnipeg in 1934. He became commanding officer of this division, and then of divisional headquarters in Vancouver. As WW II broke out, he became Signals Officer at Esquimault (BC), and then was loaned to the Royal Navy for four years.

He saw active service in European coastal waters and in North Atlantic convoy duty, receiving the D.S.C.

Post-WW II he remained in the RCN. During the Korean War he headed the Canadian Destroyer Force sent there. For his service he was awarded the D.S.O.

He subsequently held the following offices: Naval Member of Directing Staff of the NDC (1951); Naval Member of Canadian Joint Staff, London (1953); Commanding Officer, HMCS "Niobe", London. Promoted to Commodore in 1957, he became Chief of Naval Staff (Air & Warfare) in 1958. In 1961 he was appointed Rear-Admiral and Vice-Chief of the Naval Staff. In 1963, amongst other duties, he was Flag Officer Atlantic.

He resigned in 1964 over unification of the Canadian Forces. Following that, he later wrote two volumes of memoirs, The Dark Broad Seas and The Thunder and the Sunshine.
