Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. Ottawa Branch : The Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (C.I.M.M.), originally known from 1898 to 1920 as the Canadian Mining Institute, was founded in 1898, to advance the interest of the mining and metal industries and of the people involved in them. Its activities have included publication of The Canadian Mining and Metallurgical Bulletin, maintenance of a library and an employment service, presentation of the views of the institute to various government bodies and the holding of annual general meetings.

Local branches hold monthly meetings, usually involving the presentation and discussion of technical papers. By 1980, the C.I.M. had 62 local branches across Canada, organized in six Technical Divisions by area of interest. The Ottawa Branch of the C.I.M.M. has functioned continuously since 1919.
