Ermatinger, William, 1811-1869 : Frederick William Ermatinger, usually known as William was inspector and superintendant of police in Montreal from 1843 to 1855 and was appointed police magistrate in 1864. The intervening years, 1856 to 1863, he served as field inspector of the active volunteer militia of Canada East.
