Excerpt of the proceedings of the meeting of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research held May 19-23, 1986, (which coincided with Agriculture Canada's Research Branch's 100th anniversary). The following agenda items are found in these tapes: Dr. E.J. LeRoux's opening address; agricultural historian, Dr. T.H. Anstey's lecture on the history of Agriculture Canada's Research Branch, including a look at major personalities and milestones of Canadian agricultural research, along with a review of the evolution of Canada's experiemental farm stations network. Researchers mentionned included: William Saunders, K.W. Neatby, E.S. Archivald and Cyril Golden, past directors of Canada's agricultural research program; Charles Saunderes, former Dominion cerealist; Angus MacKay, head of the Experimental Farm at Indian Head (Saskatchewan); W.T. MacOwen, Dominion horticulturalist; James Fletcher, Dominion Entomologist, and Frank Shutt, Dominion chemist. Dr. R.K. Downey of Agriculture Canada talks about Canola, a product made from rapeseed, developed by federal government researchers. Another departmental researcher, Dr. W.L. Pelton lectures on dryland farming, the Canadian experience and international research. The subject of Canadian support to agricultural research in the Developing World is discussed by Dr. H.G. Zandstra of the International Development Research Centre. <270mn>
