Item is a memorial of William Pepperell to "their Excellencies the Lords Justices" requesting the payment of arrears in pay. Enclosed is a copy of a letter of congratulation from the Assembly of Massachusetts (24 December 1745).

Pepperrell, William, Sir, 1696-1759 : William Pepperell was born 27 June 1696 (old style) at Kittery Point, Massachusetts (now in Maine). He was an important merchant and shipowner in New England and owned large real estate. He was a member of the Massachusetts provincial assembly and judge. In 1745, Pepperell was the commander-in-Chief of the Louisbourg Expedition. The success of this expedition was applause in London and Pepperell was commissioned colonel in command of a regiment in the regular army and conferred a baronetcy. He died 6 July 1759.
