Host Peter Jennings provides the historical context behind the current push for stronger gun control legislation and simultaneous efforts to prevent such controls. Footage includes: the aftermath of 1967 race riots in Newark, New Jersey; a weapons training program for youth; samples of typical mail order guns, including a replica of the weapon used to assassinate Senator Robert F. Kennedy in June, 1968; and the President of the North Ward Citizens' Committee in Newark, "Tony" Imperiale, teaching his six-year-old son how to use firearms. Larry Zolf interviews Imperiale and others who object to gun controls, including: Roman Hruska; President of the National Rifle Association Harold Glassen; a police officer; a gunsmith; and teenagers at an annual shooting match. Interviews of those who support tighter legislation include senators Thomas Dodd and Joseph Tydings. <60mn>Subjects:CIVIL RIGHTS~FIREARMS LAW & LEGISLATION~NEWARK~RIOTS~UNITED STATES ~DODD, THOMAS J.~GLASSEN, HAROLD~IMPERIALE, ANTONY~JENNINGS, PETER~KRUSKA, ROMAN~TYDINGS, JOSEPH~ZOLF, LARRY Language:EnglishNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
