Ottawa Women's Canadian Club : The Ottawa Women's Canadian Club was organized in 1910 to foster patriotism and encourage the study of Canadian life. It became especially active during World War I, when it collected some 80,000 in support of Canadian veterans overseas and European relief. During World War II, the Club operated a lunch and tea-room in the Capital Theatre and sponsored other programs in support of the war effort. Money raised during the wars and not spent, was directed towards establishing scholarships: the Prisoner of War Scholarship, offered at Queen's University since 1919, and the War Memorial Scholarship, offered at Carleton University since 1946. At luncheon meetings, the main activity sponsored by the Club during the years of peace, statesmen, representatives of the diplomatic corps and outstanding figures in the professional and cultural world, both Canadian and foreign, addressed club members and friends.

The Ottawa Women's Canadian Club is a branch of the Association of Canadian Clubs, which was organized in 1907. It is locally affiliated with the Ottawa Council of Women, the Canadian Citizenship Council, the Ottawa Branch of the United Nations Associations in Canada, the Ottawa Branch of the Canadian-American Women's Committee and the Chelsea Club. The latter is a women's residential club, established by the O.W.C.C. in 1925.

The records were received from the Ottawa Women's Canadian Club through the courtesy of: the Club Secretary, Muriel Thornton, in 1959; the Club President, Ruth Bell, in 1976; Mrs. M.A. Axon, 2nd Vice-President in 1978; Marion MacKinnon, Corresponding Secretary, in 1983; Mary Ann Calzonetti in 1984; and Marion MacKinnon in 1986.
The papers were reboxed and a finding aid was created in 1995.
