Fonds consists of a genealogical chart, an account book kept by Stephen Conger and his executors relating to his business as a merchant of general goods, and proprietor of a grist mill, 1800-1829; notebooks and miscellaneous papers kept by Stephen Conger and family containing accounts, receipts, memoranda, pharmaceutical recipes, marriage records and genealogical notes, n.d., 1762-1883.

Conger, Stephen, 1773-1827 (family) : Stephen Conger was a merchant and a magistrate at Hallowell (Picton), Prince Edward County, Upper Canada. He was the son of David Conger (1731-1792), a United Empire Loyalist from Piscataugua, New Jersey. As a merchant and miller, Stephen Conger was associated with businessmen such as Peter Smith and Thomas Goldsmith in the Kingston area. As a magistrate from 1803, he officiated at the marriages of numerous families in Prince Edward County.

Several of Stephen Conger's relations were notable regional figures. His nephew, John Owens Conger (b. 1796) was a surveyor and militia captain. John's son, Stephen Marshall Conger (b. 1835) operated the Picton Gazette. Another nephew, Wilson Seymour Conger (1804-1864) became a sheriff and politician in Peterborough County.
