Ottawa Agricultural Society : The Ottawa Agricultural Society was founded in January 1868, under the Act respecting the Bureau of Agriculture and Agricultural Societies. (Cons. Statutes of Canada, 20 Vic., Cap. 32). It was designed to provide for united action among the different committees of Central Canada in the interests of agriculture. In 1882, the City of Ottawa assumed ownership of its grounds and buildings.
