One of the first films made of the journey to the mouth of the Mackenzie River, this short film was produced to show Canadians the importance of the newly discovered oil resources in the region. Shots include: the region northward by the water route to the mouth of the Mackenzie River, which flows 1500 miles "down north" to the Arctic Ocean; downtown traffic in Edmonton, Alberta; trading post at Fort McMurray; steamer passing limestone; Tar Sand Hills seeping with oil; Anglican Church and Hudson,s Bay trading post at Fort Chipewyan; town of Fitzgerald on the Athabaskan River, a transfer point on the Athabaskan; Rapids of the Drowned; Fort Smith in the Northwest Territories; and Hay River. Additional sequences of the Roman Catholic Missions at Fort Resolution and Fort Providence, kittens at Hudson's Bay Post; Indians in front of teepee; with scenes of Indian settlements and children posing with members of the Grey Nun order; Indian stick games; Fort Simpson; farmer cutting hay with mowing machine and team of oxen; harvesting grain with oxen; wheatfield and vegetable garden; Nahanni Mountains; the Fort Norman oil fields; Fort Macpherson and Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer. <15mn>
