Canadian Press Association : The Canadian Press Association was founded in 1859 by representatives of various newspapers in Ontario. The initial objective of the movement was to raise the standard of newspaper writing and publishing. It later developed an active interest in the business and technological aspects of newspaper production, and in particular in libel law and newsprint prices. It expanded greatly after the turn of the century and by 1914, claimed a membership of 75% of all daily newspapers in Canada. In 1916, the Association was incorporated (4-5 Geo. V, Cap. 135). The Association broke into three offshoots in 1919. It was not, however, finally liquidated until 1941.
