This consists of several interview and actuality cuts recorded for the CBC radio series Our Canada, telling the story of the ordinary people, events and developments in the railways, wheatlands, waterways, mines, airways, industries, communications, arts, governments, philanthropies and religions that have shaped Canada. A Prince Edward Island resident recounts the history of his family's immigration to Prince Edward Island under the leadership of Lord Selkirk. He describes primitive pioneer days on the Island, agriculture, and his family, which has retained its knowledge of the Gaelic language. This is followed by the man singing a Gaelic song. Another man describes the farming and fishing in the Malpeque Bay region of Prince Edward Island, with particular reference to the area's famous oysters. A Charlottetown man describes that city's pride in being the cradle of Confederation because many historic buildings there were sites where Canada's politicians planned Confederation. Another man describes, in two takes, the dependence of the Island on the ferry, the S.S. P.E.I., linking it to the mainland, and rail service. There are also noises of a ship in operation.
