Fonds consists of extracts from notes on Alfred Waddington by his niece Mrs. Charles de Bunsen, a newspaper article on Waddington, a genealogy of the Waddington family and notes on Thomas Waddington, brother of Alfred, 1703-1872. This material is located on microfilm reel A-884.

Waddington, Alfred, 1801-1872 : Alfred Waddington was educated at Paris, Götin and Leipzig, and he began his career in the family cotton business but soon abandoned it for steel. In 1850, he went to California and engaged in the provisioning of gold-miners. In 1858, he settled at Victoria, and in 1860 became a member of the Legislative Assembly. He was also the first Superintendent of Education. In 1868, he read a paper to the Royal Geographic Society tracing an all-Canadian route for a Transcontinental Railway. His plans were purchased by the Canadian Government for 2,000 shortly before his death.
