Fonds consists of a oe100 bond issued by the Erie and Ontario Railroad Company, 1 July 1853, and a guarantee to land owners who had sold property to the company that they would be paid, 5 September 1857.

Erie and Ontario Railroad Company : The decision to build the Erie and Ontario Railroad was made in 1831, but actual construction did not start until 1839. The line was completed in 1841, connecting Chippawa with Queenston. It was the first railway to be built in the province of Upper Canada. The line was then extended north from Queenston through Niagara Township and was officially opened on July 3, 1854. In 1862, construction began on another expansion. The line was extended south from Willoughby and Bertie Townships to Fort Erie and then on to Niagara-on-the Lake. It was completed in July of 1864 and was officially renamed the Erie and Niagara Railroad.
