Fonds consists of correspondence and survey notes by Duncan Sinclair. Most of the papers are letters from Andrew Russell, Commissioner of Lands. Also including a list of settlers at Deep River, Renfrew County in 1853.

Sinclair, Duncan, fl. 1845-1857 : Duncan Sinclair, surveyor, qualified as Provincial Land Surveyor in the Province of Quebec on 20 June 1845. He moved to Ottawa from Point Fortune, Quebec in 1857, and it is alleged that he conducted surveys for Colonel By on the Rideau Canal. In Ottawa, he was also actively employed on timber limit surveys as well as in general practice. Sinclair was active in many parts of the country as a surveyor and spent time in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, the North-West and in North Dakota. He made surveys in the province of Ontario under Government instructions in 1852 outlining Lanark and Renfrew Counties and surveying Lot 39, Concession A, Nepeau in 1853.
