Fonds consists of part of a letter written by William Hewgill, from the "Gore of Toronto, Upper Canada", to an unidentified friend in England, around September 15, 1843; and a letter written by William Hewgill, from the "County of Peel, Province of Canada, North America, Gore of Toronto" to his sister Hannah Knaggs, from "Sandsend near Whitby, North Riding of Yorkshire, England", on March 31, 1856. Both letters contain information about family and mutual friends who had settled in Canada West (Ontario), opportunities for English settlers, travel, weather, land, religion, etc.
