Fonds consists of copies of correspondence, orders, and morning and parade reports relating to the Esssex Militia. These documents were accumulated by Prideaux Girty, Major in the 3rd Regiment of the Essex Militia. The parade statements make up the largest portion of the collection.

Girty, Prideaux, fl. 1838-1839 : Prideaux Girty, militia officer, the son of Simon Girty Jr. (1741-1818) and Catherine Malott (1764-1852), was born in 1796 in Malden, Essex, Ontario and died in Dayton, Ohio in 1853. "Seventh generation," , March 2001.
