This consists of three segments, two taken from workprints and one a soundtrack only, prepared for a program on the Stratford Festival in the CBC Television series Newsmagazine. Actors Gratien Gelinas and Christopher Plummer chat with each other and reply to an off-camera interviewer, Peter Reilly's questions, as they lean against trees on the lawns near the Avon River. There is a silent shot of Plummer and Gelinas crossing an arched footbridge over the river as a small boat travels under the bridge. The actors discuss their first impressions of the Stratford Festival, the concept of theatre-in-the round, in which the audience surrounds the stage, and the first-time use in the 1956 season of French Canadian actors in the play Henry V. Plummer compares the Festival in Ontario with the Stratford, Connecticut Sheakespearian festival, judging the Connecticut festival inferior because it has too much money. Gelinas says he has not acted in "serious" Shakespearian drama before. He states that Shakespeare's plays ought to be performed in English as Shakespeare intended. The order of the film segments was created by archives staff because the out-takes were scattered throughout a number of cans in no apparent order.~4. Release date is that of the kinescope broadcast version, which shows only a silent shot of the actors walking.
