Reporter Peter Reilly introduces a CBC Newsmagazine segment on the 1956 Stratford Festival. He is shown on the stage of the Stratford Festival tent, looking at the empty seats in the darkened theatre. He describes the theatre. There is a short segment showing a CBC cameraman. Next, Reilly interviews Peter Bennett, the Stratford Festivals's managing director. Bennett mentions the upcoming performance by members of the Stratford Festival acting company at the Edinborough Festival. Bennett also speaks about the plans to replace the tent theatre with a new building, the permanent Festival Theatre, to be ready for the 1957 season. Bennett also talks about the Stratford Music Festival, initiated to give audiences more than just Shakespearian drama. Bennett is standing on a small footbridge in Stratford during the interview. Finally, there is a brief clip of a group of French-speaking men and women seated on a lawn. Some are reading scripts and rehearsing while others sing to guitar accompaniment. They are likely members of the group of Quebec actors invited to act in the 1956 Stratford Festival. <4mn>
