Fonds consists of original documents, 21 cm: correspondence received, and draft of letters sent, by Charles Jones concerning public affairs and personal business, 1809-1848; papers concerning the social and political life of Leeds and Grenville Counties, 1794-1873, including assessment polls, 1794-1799, 1853, payment of MLA's, election papers and Johnstown District records; papers concerning Leeds County Militia, 1800-1847. Also included is a letter from William Lyon MacKenzie to Charles Jones, concerning the Attorney-General, 1824. The letter is a transcript from original owned by Judge MacDonald of Brockville, 9 pages.

Jones, Charles, 1781-1840 : Charles Jones, son of Massachusetts Loyalist Ephraim Jones and Charlotte Coursolles, was a successful miller and merchant, as well as a leading member of Brockville society. He held numerous public offices, including Clerk of the Johnston District, 1800-1808, Colonel of the Leeds milita, M.L.A., 1821-1828, and member of the Legislative Council, 1829-1840.
