Fonds consists of accounts and bills of lading for John Auldjo, merchant, London, England, and for Auldjo, Maitland and Company, Montreal, Lower Canada, dating from 180-1811.

Fonds also includes a portrait miniature of Eweretta Jane Richardson (1774-1808), wife of Alexander Auldjo, painted by Sampson Towgood Roch ca. 1798-1800.

Auldjo, Alexander : Alexander Auldjo was an important Montreal merchant in the firm of Auldjo, Maitland and Company. He was also an agent for the Phoenix Assurance Company of London. Auldjo was active in the agitation for a Legislative Assembly and served as member of the Assembly for Montreal West from 1796 until 1800. He worked constantly for port facilities at Montreal and improved navigation on the St. Lawrence River.
