James Maclaren Company : The James Maclaren Company was founded by James Maclaren (1818-1892), son of David Maclaren, a Scottish emigrant. He first operated at Wakefied, Que. but in 1853 in partnership with J.M. Currier, he leased a large sawmill at the mouth of the Rideau River. This property was retained until 1948 but in 1864 James Maclaren also bought and began to operate mills at Buckingham, Que. These mills were taken over after 1892 by James' sons David, Alexander, John, James Barnet and Albert Maclaren who in 1900, founded the James Maclaren Company at Buckingham, Que.
