Drafts of despatches from the Lieutenant Governor to the Colonial Secretary, June-December 1835, together with their enclosures (Volume 1; 5cm). The 47 despatches form a broken sequence numbered 28 to 78, with two unnumbered texts. These texts may be compared with other drafts in RG 7, G 9 or with the entrybooks in RG 7, G 16 A, as well as with the final texts received in London, now forming MG 11, Colonial Office 42 and the "duplicate despatches" in MG 40, A 2. Contemporary copy of Lord Glenelg's first despatch to Sir Francis Bond Head, 5 December 1835, elaborating upon the latter's instructions as Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada (Volume 2; paginated 234-354). Extracts from correspondence relating to the establishment of a Chair of Theology for the Church of Scotland at King's College, 1837-1840 (Volume 3; 6 pages). Certified copies, prepared at the Colonial Office in 1854, of despatches between the Lieutenant Governor and the Colonial Secretary, and related documents, 1818-1837, regarding the administration of the Clergy Reserves in Canada (Volume 4; 132 pages). A list of the items prefaces the volume. Received in 1988 from the Regional Collection of the D.B. Weldon Library, University of Western Ontario, London, which institution had obtained the documents from Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Sparham of Barrie, Ontario. The texts of the other six items, including the Commissions to Sir Peregrine Maitland in 1818 and to Sir John Colborne in 1828, have not been located within the official series of despatches.
