Fonds consists of documents which reflect Mrs. Peters involvement with the Hadassah-WIZO Organization of Canada and other Jewish organizations. Included is documentation relating to conventions, conferences and seminars, meetings, correspondence and minutes relating to the National Executive and National Committee of the Hadassah-WIZO organization. Also included is material which document projects and activities in Israel, n.d., 1982-1987.

Peters, Cecily, b. 1924 : Cecily Peters, née Goodman, was born in Toronto in 1924. Her grandparents, Charles and Sarah Goodman, had settled in the Toronto area in 1880. She graduated from the Toronto Normal School in the 1940's and taught at Clinton Street Public School, Toronto, until shortly after her marriage.

She first became involved with the Hadassah-WIZO Organization of Canada in 1948 after she married Bernard Mayer, an engineer who passed away in 1965. She joined the Deborah Chapter in 1948 and served as president of her chapter three times during the fifties and sixties. She became an executive member of Toronto Hadassah-WIZO in 1961 and served as president from 1965-1967. She joined the National Executive in 1967 and served in a variety of capacities including National General Secretary, National Vice-President and National Convention Chairman, 1983. She served as National President for two terms from 1983 to 1987 and travelled extensively across the nation. During the course of her presidency she has focussed her attention on Youth Aliyah, and increasing the organization's membership.

She established the first Aviv Conference for members age 45 and under.

Outside of her Canadian Hadassah-WIZO activities, she served as chairman of the 1969 Women's Division Campaign, United Jewish Appeal of Toronto and Vice-President and the United Israel Appeal of Canada, Women's Division. She served on the Governing Council of the University of Toronto from 1982 to 1985.
