Tierney, George Vincent, b. 1873 : George Tierney enlisted at Halifax in 1900 with the 2nd (Special Service) Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment, and served in South Africa until taking his discharge there in October of that year. He returned to his former trade as a blacksmith by obtaining work at the Transvaal maintenance shops of the former Netherlands South Africa Railway, which had been brought under Imperial military administration.
