Fonds consists of a First Volunteer Militia Rifle Company muster roll, affidavit, printed by-laws, and printed militia report for 1863, 1836-1878, 60 pages; Thomas Scott memoranda and clippings relating to his death, correspondence and pamphlets concerning the Red River and North West rebellions, circular advertising Beckles Willson's history of the Hudson's Bay Company, 1871-1906, 36 pages; Red River Expedition printed report by Assistant Controller Irvine, and printed correspondence and journal of operations, 1871, 113 pages; and order books concerning mostly activities of "H" Company, Midland Battalion, 1885.

Harrison, Edward, b. 1851 : Lieutenant-Colonel Edward Harrison was educated at Upper Canada College and began his career in the Militia at an early age, seeing service in the Fenian Raids of 1866, at Red River in 1870, and in the North West campaign of 1885. In 1875 he took command of Number 1 Company, 49th (Rifle) Battalion, a unit originally organized in 1836 as the Belleville Rifle Company. This company became "H" Company of the Midland Battalion, a provisional unit formed as part of the 1885 North West Field Force, and was under Harrison's command during the campaign. In 1898 Harrison assumed command of the 49th Battalion as Lieutenant-Colonel. He was for many years employed by the Secretary of State Department of Ottawa. Morgan, Henry J., ed.
