Fonds consists of correspondence concerning the Hudson's Bay Company, Fort William District and assistance to the 1870 Red River expedition, 1855, 1869-1896; correspondence concerning a birth certificate for a son born to Lord and Lady Milton during their stay at Fort William, 1872-1873, 1893; miscellaneous documents, ca. 1872-1874; a copy of the first message relayed on the Canadian Pacific telegraph line, 1876; a typed manuscript extract; and a biography of John McIntyre.

McIntyre, John, 1817-1899 : John McIntyre entered the service of the Hudson's Bay Company upon immigration to Canada in 1841. After travelling around the world with Governor Simpson, he was stationed at several posts on the St. Lawrence. In 1849 he was placed in charge of the Brunswick House on Missinabi Lake and in 1855 he was appointed Factor at Fort William, a position which he retained until he retired. He also served as Preventive Officer of Her Majesty's customs, Associate Justice of the Peace, and Indian Agent for the district.
