Fonds also consists of numerous photographs of participants at conventions and conferences.

Also included are items of honour awarded to Edgar Alfred Allcut throughout his life and engineering career. These items include the Henslop medal; a World War I service badge; the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Canada pendant; 3 Engineering Institute of Canada medals (Plummer, Gzowski, and Duggan); the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario Distinguished Engineering Achievement medal; and an SPS brooch.

Allcut, E. A. (Edgar Alfred), 1888- : Mechanical Engineer Professor

Edgar Allcut was born at Smethwick, Staffordshire and studied engineering at the University of Birmingham, 1904-1910. He joined the staff of the University of Toronto in 1921 as Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering, became Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1944, and Emeritus Professor in 1956. While at the University of Toronto he conducted research and wrote articles on a wide range of topics, including producer gas, oil and steam engines, heat insulation, materials, solar and other forms of energy, engineering education, engineering management and air pollution.

During World War II, Allcut was Chairman of a Committee on Producer Gas for the National Research Council; subsequently he became a Commissioner of the Ontario Energy Board, 1960-1969 and member of the Ontario Labour Safety Council, 1962-1965. He was Chairman of the Smoke Abatement Advisory Committee of the City of Toronto, 1949-1955, and Consultant on Air Pollution for Metropolitan Toronto, 1964-1968. He served as Consulting Editor to Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering, 1941-1956, and to Canadian Power Engineering, 1957-1965. He also acted as a private consultant on a variety of engineering matters.

Allcut received the Plummer, Gzowski and Duggan Medals and numerous other engineering awards, and in 1964 the American Society of Mechanical Engineers established an award in his name for outstanding work by a Canadian mechanical engineer.
