Fonds consists of two year-end field reports, 1935 and 1936, by William C. Murdie dealing with the surveying to establish distinctively marked permanent Harbour Line Control Points along the Waterfront of Fort William and Port Arthur, Ont. An accompanying paper, "Establishing Harbour Line Control by Geodetic Triangulation", 1937, by Noel J. Ogilvie, Dominion Geodesist, describes the project in a less personal fashion.

Murdie, William Campbell, 1891-1965 : William Campbell Murdie, engineer and surveyor, was born in Seaforth, Ont., July 1, 1891. He left Seaforth to attend the School of Applied Science at the University of Toronto and received his B.A.Sc. in 1913 and M.A.Sc. in 1914. Upon graduation he moved to Ottawa. During World War I and World War II he served as Captain and Major respectively with the 9th Field Company of Canadian Engineers. He received the Military Cross at Vimy Ridge. Mr. Murdie died 13 April 1965.
