MacMillan, Donald Baxter, b. 1874 : Donald Baxter MacMillan was born in Provincetown, Massachusetts in 1874, was educated at Bowdoin College, 1898, and studied at Harvard. After a decade of teaching he went on the expedition (1908-1909) of Robert E. Peary to the North Pole. Later (1911, 1912) he made ethnological studies among the Labrador Eskimos. Leader of the Crocker Land expedition (1913-1917), MacMillan established a base at Etah, Greenland, from which he explored the Greenland coast and Ellesmere and Axel Heiberg islands. Thereafter, MacMillan commenced a life of active exploration in the Arctic which included 27 voyages to Greenland, Baffin Island, and Labrador before 1950. MacMillan died in 1970.

General note:

The Peary Arctic Expedition (1909) note was recovered in 1917 by the Canadian Arctic Expedition, transferred in 1954 to the Defence Research Board and the Geological Survey, then re-transferred to the National Archives in 1958. The Crocker Land Expedition record (1916) was recovered in 1917 by the Canadian Arctic Expedition and transferred to the National Archives in 1920. The remaining 7 pages of 1916-1917 records were recovered between 1926-1960 by the R.C.M.P. and were transferred to the National Archives between 1927-1961. The Third Thule Expedition (1920) record was recovered in 1954 by the Defence Research Board and the Geological Survey and transferred to the National Archives in 1958.
