Fonds consists of correspondence concerning the overhauling and fitting of the Arctic, purchase of supplies, and hiring of crew and interpreters. Some of the correspondents include J.D. Craig, who was in charge of the expedition, and Sir Wilfred Grenfell, 1920-1921, 5 cm. The fonds also includes a diary relating to the daily progression repairing and outfitting the ship, 1921, 0.6 cm; a map of Arctic Islands with pencilled notes, n.d., 0.6 cm; and accounts, requisitions, paylists and list of supplies, n.d., 3.8 cm.

Pickles, Harris C., d. 1921 : Captain Harris C. Pickles, naval officer, was named in January 1921 to command the C.G.S. Arctic, which was to convey the proposed Canadian Arctic Expedition to the Northern Islands that year. The expedition was cancelled in June and Captain Pickles died in September.
