Fonds consists of three letterbooks including letterpress copies of A.W. Wright's correspondence while he was a member of the General executive Board of the Knights of Labor and after he lost his position, 1890-1895, 7.6 cm; Knights of Labor correspondence and miscellaneous items, 1892-93, 29 pages; miscellaneous including correspondence and clippings, 1884, 1895, 1907-1919, 2 cm; British tariff reform publications including pamphlets, speakers notes, and circulars of the tariff reform League and other British organizations favouring tariff protection, 1910-1911, 3.8 cm; scrapbooks composed primarily of newspaper clippings, ca. 1906, 22 cm; and First Ontario Rifles, No. 5 Company Ledger, Fort Garry, including "Country Waterloo's Part in the Fenian Raids" by A.W. Wright, typed manuscript, 1870-1871, 16 pages." by A.W.

Wright, Alexander Whyte, 1845-1919 : Born at Elmira, Ontario, Alexander W. Wright engaged in woollen manufacturing in several towns in South-Western Ontario until 1873. During this period he served in the militia as a Color Sergeant in No. 5 Company of the First Ontario Rifles. He subsequently took up journalism, editing successively the Guelph Herald, the Orangeville Sun, the Stratford Herald, and the Toronto National. He was active in the National Policy agitation and became secretary of the Canadian Manufacturers' Association in 1882.

He joined the Knights of Labor in the mid-1880s and used his newly-established newspaper, the Labor Reformer, to propogate the ideas of the Order. At the 1888 General Assembly of the Order he was elected to the General Executive Board and he later became Secretary to the Board. He edited the Journal of the Knights of Labor from April 1892 to Nov. 1893. He lost his executive position at the 1893 General Assembly when the agrarian element led by James Sovereign took control of the dying Order.

In 1895 he was appointed by the federal government to investigate sweats shop labour in Canada. He worked for the Conservative Party of the Canadian Public Ownership League for a number of years in 1914 he was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Ontario Workmen's Compensation Board.
