Fonds consists of general correspondence relating to Keen's personal, family, and business activities, arranged chronologically 1906-1954, with no files for the years 1908, 1919-1925, 1943, 1945 and 1946, 20 cm. Official correspondence relating to Keen's association with the Brantford Co-operative Association, 1908-1909, the Brantford Trades and Labour Council, 1917, the Brant Farmers' Co-operative Society, 1919-1922 and the Worker's Educational Association, 1930-1934, 22.5 cm. There is also some miscellaneous material, 1917, 1926-1952, 7.5 cm.

The fonds also contains a portrait of Mr. George Keen, ca. 1910.

Keen, George, 1869-1953 : Co-operative Leader

George Keen emigrated to Canada in 1904 and settled in Brantford where he helped organize the local co-operative society. He was instrumental in the formation of the Co-operative Union of Canada in 1909, and served as its secretary-general until 1945. He also played a significant role in developing the co-operative movement in Western and Atlantic Canada. He edited the Canadian Co-operator, official publication of the Co-operative Union of Canada. Keen was active in the Brant Farmers' Co-operative and the Workers' Educational Association. In addition he was made an honorary member of the Brantford Trades and Labour Council. His memoirs, Birth of A Movement were published in 1950.
