Fonds consists of an historical sketch of the development of the Hamilton Electrical Light and Cataract Power Company and its successor, the Dominion Power and Transmission Company, by W.C. Hawkins, the general manager. Emphasis is on John Patterson who originally conceived the idea of harnessing De Cews Falls to provide power for the Hamilton area. An article on the Cataract Power Company published in the Christmas 1899 issue of the Hamilton Spectator is included.

The fonds also contains photographs depicting the Lincoln Electric Railway, ca. 1900-1915, and a portrait of John Patterson.

Hawkins, William Clark, 1866-ca.1925 : William Hawkins, mechanical engineer, was educated at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey and came to Canada in 1900 to join the Hamilton Electric Light and Cataract Power Company as its secretary and general manager.
