Fonds consists textual material including the diary of Frederick Anderson, kept while working on the Canadian Government Hydrographic Service on the South Shore of Manitoulin Island during the 1898 reason; and an obituary.

Fonds also includes an album of photographs presumed to be taken by Frederick Anderson including views of Ottawa, Ontario, such as a skating party at Rideau Hall, members of the Forbes and other Ottawa families; 766 Lisgar Street; office interiors; card playing; and other recreational activities; ships on the Great Lakes; views at Bayfield, Rondeau Harbour, Owen Sound, and on Lakes St. Clair and Lake Erie, Ontario; Charlottetown, P.E.I.; Sudbury Depot; and various other recreational activities, including a visit to a Royal canadian Academy exhibition, with four views of individuals posed in front of Paul Peel's A Venetian Bather, Benjamin West's Death of Wolfe; and other works.

Anderson, Frederick, 1868-1957 : Captain Frederick Anderson attended the Royal Military College in Kingston and entered the Canadian Government Service in 1892. He pioneered the Hudson Bay Seaway route in 1910-1914, leading several expeditions responsible for locating harbour facilities at Port Nelson and Churchill. During World War I he was in charge of defence charting for the Royal Navy along Canada's Atlantic ports. He became head of the Canadian Government Hydrographic Service in 1920, a position he held until his retirement in 1936.
