Fonds consists of correspondence, clippings, publications, reports and memorabilia relating to the Canadian Manufacturers' Association, the British Empire Exhibition of 1924-1925, and other subjects associated with J.S. MacKinnon's career.

Fonds contains 13 photographs relating to J.S. MacKinnon and to the British Empire Exhibition, 1924-1925.

Fonds also contains a British Empire Exhibition medal, 1924, received by MacKinnon as Director of Industrial Exhibits for the Canadian Section of the Exhibition.

MacKinnon, John Sylvester, 1870-1844 : John Sylvester MacKinnon (1868-1944) entered the Toronto clothing firm of S.F. McKinnon & Co. Limited in 1902, becoming the firm's president in 1917. He was president of the Canadian Manufacturers' Association, 1920-21. From 1923 to 1925 he was Director of Industrial Exhibits for the Canadian Section of the British Empire Exhibition, which took place at Wembley from 1924 to 1925.

Mr. MacKinnon changed the spelling of the family name from "McKinnon" about 1925.
