Item is a letter from Robert Hamilton of Queenston, U.C., to Isaac Todd, 11 October 1806, reporting on the causes and consequences of the duel between William Dickson and William Weeks. A character sketch of Weeks identifies his irritating behaviour: derogatory remarks about the late Lieutenant Governor Peter Hunter, Henry Allcock and others. The details of the duel on 9 October and Weeks' death are summarized.

Todd, Isaac, ca. 1742-1819 : Isaac Todd (c.1742-1819) engaged in business in Ireland before emigrating to Canada about 1765, settling in Montreal and engaging in the fur trade. Todd served as Montreal agent for various merchants, including Phyn, Ellice & Company of Schenectady, N.Y., and Robert Hamilton and Richard Cartwright of Niagara. He established a partnership with James McGill in 1776, under the name Todd & McGill; they joined the NorthWest Company in 1792, but did not remain with that association. Todd pursued various public interests, travelled extensively in Upper and Lower Canada, and engaged in various business ventures until his retirement in 1815, when he moved to Bath, England for his health.
