Fonds consists of textual records, n.d., 1924, 1938, 1949-1986, that includes material on the history, origins and constitution of OMEP-Canada; notices, agenda, reports and minutes of meetings; membership lists and files; newsletters and publicity material; financial material; project files, including briefs and submissions to government by OMEP-Canada; correspondence; files on regions of OMEP-Canada, on OMEP in other countries, and on OMEP-World, including World Assemblies and Council meetings; files on liaison with co-operating organizations; and subject/reference files.

Fonds also consists of a sound recording produced by the Republic of Venezuela to mark the 1974 World Assembly of the Organisation mondiale pour l'éducation préscolaire held in Caracas, Venezuala.

Fonds also consists of one medal, 1973, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Organisation mondiale pour l'éducation préscolaire/World Organization for Early Childhood Education.

World Organization for Early Childhood Education. Canadian Committee : The Organisation mondiale pour l'éducation préscolaire/World Organisation for Early Childhood Education (usually known as OMEP) was founded in 1946 and held its first world assembly in Prague in 1948. Basic to OMEP's philosophy has been a two-fold belief that education is a cradle-to-grave process and that the first years of life are highly significant in the formation of the individual. For these reasons OMEP has widely advocated pre-primary education. OMEP has also interested itself in such related areas as day care, nursery schools, toys, playgrounds, home life, and children's literature, and has argued that these should all have an educational focus.

OMEP's structure has consisted of national committees for member countries and preparatory committees for aspiring members. Efforts to organize a Canadian branch date from 1956-1957, and a Canadian national committee was formally established in 1960 under the name Canadian Committee on Early Childhood/Organisation canadienne pour l'éducation préscolaire. (The title OMEP-Canada has nevertheless predominated.) Little activity occurred in Canada until 1965. OMEP-Canada has further organized itself into regional committees. It has administered itself through its executive, board of directors, and annual general meetings.

OMEP has had consultative status with such international bodies as UNICEF and UNESCO. OMEP-Canada has been a member of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO.
